The fairy tale was all written for Cody Clark, but the newest Astro couldn't get the big hit in his first career start. Dallas Keuchel fires seven scoreless innings, but Chia-Jen Lo has his first bad outing to keep the Astros from finishing the sweep.

The Astros had their chances to support an impressive start by Dallas Keuchel on Sunday. Houston finished 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base, including leaving the bases loaded twice.

The best chance came in the second inning when Houston loaded the bases with no outs. Unsurprisingly at this point, the Astros grounded into a double play. This time it was Jake Elmore who helped push a run across while killing a rally all at the same time to give Houston a 1-0 lead that they would hold for a long time.

Sunday was by far Keuchel's finest performance this season. He threw 105 pitches in his seven scoreless innings, scattering four hits and three walks while striking out two. Josh Fields followed with a scoreless inning in the eighth and the Astros held their one-run lead going into the ninth.

Chia-Jen Lo got the chance to record his second save in less than 24 hours. In his first ten innings as an MLB pitcher, Lo posted a 0.90 ERA. After Sunday, it was 2.61.

Lo allowed walk, single, walk to load the bases with no outs. Astros manager Bo Porter decided to stick with the righty, but Lo then walked Moses Sierra on a pitch that missed a little low to score the game-tying run. Lo struck out the next batter, but Kevin Chapman was then summoned to try to keep it tied.

Chapman was able to induce a ground ball from the first batter he faced, Ryan Goins, but it was chopped too high and too slow to second, allowing Anthony Gose to score the go-ahead run. Philip Humber came in to get the last out of the ninth.

But the Astros did not go down without a fight. With two outs, pinch-hitter Jason Castro got things started with a walk. Jonathan Villar followed with a single through the left side, and Brett Wallace also walked as a pinch-hitter to load the bases. With nobody left on the bench, Cody Clark came to the plate with a chance to be the hero in his first career start.

Clark hit a comebacker to Blue Jays' closer Casey Janssen that went off the top of his glove and towards the second baseman Goins with some speed still on it, allowing Goins to get Clark by a couple steps.

Robbie Grossman extended his hitting streak to 12 games with two singles from the leadoff spot. Villar recorded three hits, including a beautiful bunt single in the second inning. All eight Astros hits were singles.

Still, a third series win in the last four tries for Houston. The Astros will look to add another series win as they travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox. Brett Oberholtzer and his 2.91 ERA will get the start on Monday night.

Pitching Match

LHP Mark Buehrle (9-7 / 4.23 ERA / 1.33 WHIP) vs. LHP Dallas Keuchel (5-7/ 5.11 ERA / 1.54 WHIP)

Preview

If I told you the Astros would have a chance at sweeping the Blue Jays at the beginning of the season, would you have believed me? Probably not, right? Toronto was the sexy picked to win the vaunted AL East crown coming into the season. Health and pitching are keys to any team's success, take the Jays for example.

On the mound today for the Astros in this battle of left-handers is Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel's last outing was one of his shortest starts this season. The Angels knocked him out after four innings of work, they scored four runs on eight hits in that start. The Arkansas product may have been on a short leash after recording 26 of 27 required outs against Texas on 116 pitches. Only two of his four appearance this month have been as a starter. In those two previous stated starts, he is 0-1 with a 6.39 ERA.

Keuchel's start in Toronto prompted his return to the bullpen for a short stent. He gave up six runs on 10 hits over 7.1 innings. This included home runs to Jose Bautista, Mark DeRosa, and Colby Rasmus. Edwin Encarnacion was 3-for-3 with an run batted in. Jose Reyes was 1-for-4 with a strikeout.

Every time I see Mark Buehrle, I have flashbacks to 2005. The sooner this game is over the better. Buehrle comes into today's game with two straight quality starts under his belt. He held the Red Sox to one run over seven innings, and the Yankees to two over 6.2 innings. In his last start against Houston on July 25, he pitched a complete game shutout. Holding the Astros to two hits and two walks. Buehrle struck out nine in that start.

Astros hope to build upon offensive explosion with Peacock on the mound.

Houston vs. Toronto, 6:10 pm (CT)

Pitching Match

RHP Chien-Ming Wang (1-1 / 7.13 ERA / 1.83 WHIP) vs. RHP Brad Peacock (2-4/ 5.59 ERA / 1.45 WHIP)

Preview

Where has this offense been all my life? I couldn't have asked for a better game. It was dollar hotdog night, I had my fill. The Astros had their fill of Jay's pitching, scoring 12 runs on 15 hits. They now face Chien-Ming Wang, who returns to the Juice Box for the first time since June 15, 2008. That was the day Wang suffered a right foot injury rounding third, and hasn't been the same since. (This was also the game that spawned one of the greatest headlines in sports history. But, let's not get off track.)

Wang required surgery to repair the two torn ligaments in his foot, returning to the Yankee rotation at the start of the 2009 season. There he had little success, Wang had a record of 0-3 with a 34.50 ERA in his first three appearances. By the end of April, New York sent Wang to the minors to work on his mechanics. He would later have shoulder surgery to end his 2009 season.

The right-hander would spend the next few seasons with the Nationals on and off the disabled list. Wang would make a total 21 major league appearances over three years in Washington. This season, Wang singed a minor league contract with the Yankees in late March. Having not made the major league roster, Wang requested to be released.

He then signed with the Blue Jays on June 9, making his first start for Toronto on June 11. Wang allowed five runs over 7.1 innings against the White Sox in that start. He then followed up with one run allowed over 13.1 innings against the Rangers and Orioles. That was the high, now for the low. Wang failed to get out of the second inning in his next two starts giving up 13 runs over 2.1 innings against the Red Sox and Tigers. The Jays designated Wang on July 5, and was assigned to Triple-A Buffalo. In Buffalo, Wang had a 4-3 record with a 3.18 ERA over eight starts. This appears to be a spot start for Wang and a quick return to Buffalo.

Wang will struggle to get into the low 90's, but still has nice break to his sinker. He will be dealing with a hot Astros lineup, lead by L.J. Hoes who was flying around the base paths line last night's game. Hoes had two hits, two walks, and scored three runs. Matt Dominguez had a two walks (That's right. TWO WALKS.) and a home run. In total, the bottom of the Astros lineup (Matty D, Brett Wallace, Brandon Barnes, and Jonathan Villar) went 7-for-12 and scored eight of the Astro's 12 runs.

On the mound today for the Astros is Brad Peacock, Houston's bulldog pitcher has been sharp thus far since returning to the rotation. Peacock has a 1-1 record with a 1.86 ERA in the month of August. He has given up only 4 runs over his last 19.1 innings. This includes in most recent start against the Angels, where he held the Halos scoreless over 6.1 innings.

Jose Reyes is 1-for--3 in his career against Peacock. He once again showed his quality as a lead-off hitter, reaching base in two of his four at-bats and seeing 13 pitches in his first two at-bats. Brett Lowrie showed his mammoth strength as he deposited a home run ball on the train tracks last night. The bottom of the Jays' lineup also found success, Anthony Gose and Ryan Goins both went 2-for-4 last night.

Is that a smile from an Astros' player? | Scott Halleran

The Astros put forth a monster offensive effort to back a second consecutive solid start from Jordan Lyles. Nine different Astros get a hit, and a very special Major League debut occurs on a great night at Minute Maid Park.

A little less then a month ago, Todd Redmond had the best start of his young career. Six innings of one-run ball, complimented by ten strikeouts against the worst team in baseball, the Houston Astros.

Well, now Redmond has a worst start of his career after those same Astros pounded the Toronto righty to the tune of eight runs in 3.1 innings.

The Astros scored in the first five innings - once in the first, second and third, five times in the fourth and twice in the fifth frame. Jose Altuve just missed a two-run home run in the first, but settled for an RBI double. Matt Dominguez led off the bottom of the second inning with a laser that barely cleared the wall and into the Crawford Boxes. Altuve picked up another RBI when he hit a hard comebacker to Redmond that the pitcher could not handle.

Houston started the fourth inning with a Matt Dominguez walk and a Brett Wallace double to put runners on second and third. Brandon Barnes followed with an RBI single to center and Jonathan Villar kept it going with his second triple of the night. This one was lined into the right-center field gap to score Wallace and Barnes, giving Houston a 6-2 lead.

Robbie Grossman drove in another run with a sac fly to make it 7-2 Astros, and L.J. Hoes walked afterwards to end Redmond's night.

Hoes has become quite the table setter for the Astros, going 2-for-3 tonight with two walks, a stolen base and scoring three times. Hoes has 16 hits in his last nine games, scoring eight runs in that span as well.

Jason Castro also got in on the fun in the big fourth inning with his first triple of the year, scoring Hoes.

Chris Carter ended the big inning with a strikeout. Trogdor didn't have as enjoyable a night as everyone else, going 0-for-4 and picking up the Golden Sombrero (four strikeouts for those that didn't pay attention when I referenced the GS when Carter did this before).

Dominguez also walked to start the fifth inning. That means that Dominguez homered and walked twice (only his 19th and 20th free passes of the year) in the same game. I assume TCB's David Coleman is beyond ecstatic about these developments.

Wallace walked and Barnes singled to load the bases for the 'Stros, and Villar hit to into the Astros patented run-scoring double play. Grossman kept it going, though, with an RBI single.

Grossman wasn't done with his night, as he homered to left-center his next time up. The two-run job scoring Wallace (2-for-3, two doubles, walk, three runs) gave Houston a ten-run lead at 12-2.

Meanwhile, Jordan Lyles worked his way to a great outing. The 22-year old gave up solo home runs to Edwin Encarnacion and J.P. Arencibia in the first and fourth inning, respectively. Lyles scattered six other hits and no more runs in his first seven innings of work and also made this nifty play.

Not to be out done, Marwin Gonzalez also put together a web gem of a play in the top of the ninth with the nasty spin throw.

Lyles' good work allowed him to take the mound to start the eighth, but after allowing a one-out single to Adam Lind, Lyles gave up a Brett Lawrie two-run home run on the 115th and final pitch of the night for the righty.

Not a great finish to what was otherwise a very good outing for Lyles. Josh Zeid and Josh Fields combined to finish it out cleanly for Houston.

It was a great night for the Houston offense, but possibly the best moment came in the bottom of the eighth when recently promoted Cody Clark got his first at-bat. The 31-year old catcher toiled for 11 years in the minors before getting the call due to injuries to Carlos Corporan and Max Stassi. Although he struck out, it was pretty awesome to see a guy, who had little to no chance of playing MLB baseball, get his first big league experience.

The Astros will send Brad Peacock to the hill Saturday night for a chance to win the third of their last four series.

Astros pitcher Jordan Lyles not only pitched a good game but he also showed off some of his athleticism.

Coming out of high school, Jordan Lyles was committed to the University of South Carolina, the school I am currently taking classes at. He was expected to not only pitch for the South Carolina baseball team, that would go on to with two national championships, but also play football for Steve Spurrier...as a wide receiver.

While I'm sure Ray Tanner and the South Carolina baseball team didn't exactly miss Lyles, Steve Spurrier may have missed out on adding another athletic wide receiver to the core of Alshon Jeffrey and Ace Sanders. Instead of going to college Lyles, considered a tough sign at the time, signed with the Houston Astros after being selected 38th in the 2008 draft.

He made his debut in 2011 at the ripe young age of 20. At the age of 22 he's already racked up 350+ innings and while he hasn't exactly impressed he has shown flashes of brilliance. Friday night was one of those nights in which he flashes some of that brilliance. So far, In seven innings of work he allowed two runs on eight hits, while striking out two batters and walking one. He also made this spectacular defensive play:
