Astros Prospect Report: July 24th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (63-34) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Dezenzo put Sugar Land on the board with a 2 run HR in the 2nd inning. In the 3rd, the offense got another run on a Hummel bases loaded walk. Gusto got the start and was great going 7 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 5. In the 7th, the Space Cowboys added 2 more runs on a Dezenzo 2 run double. The pen closed it out with 2 scoreless innings.

Note: Gusto has 86 K in 88 innings this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (32-59) won 10-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board scoring 2 runs in the first on an error and a Cole RBI single. In the 3rd, the Hooks got 3 more runs on solo HRs from Melton, Cole and Brewer. Rodriguez started for the Hooks and was solid allowing 3 runs over 5.2 innings. Sacco added a run in the 6th on a solo HR. The Hooks continued to add on scoring 4 runs in the 7th on Brewer and Price RBI singles and Sacco and Arocho bases loaded walks. The bullpen was solid as they closed out the 10-4 win.

Note: Cole has a .865 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (38-51) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Sherwin solo HR. In the 5th, they picked up 2 more runs on a Deming 2 run double. Swanson got the start and was great going 6 innings allowing 1 run with 5 strikeouts. They got 2 more runs in the 8th on a Fisher 2 run HR. The bullpen was great tossing 3 scoreless as they closed out the 5-1 win.

Note: Fisher has 3 HR over his last 4 games.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (43-49) won 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Mejia started for the Woodpeckers and allowed 2 runs over 4 innings with 7 strikeouts. The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 4th on a Villarroel solo HR. After Down East extended the lead to 3-2, the Woodpeckers got a run back on a Bush RBI double. The Woodpeckers went into the 9th down 3-2 but rallied for 4 runs on a Bush RBI double, Luciano sac fly and Hernandez 2 run single. Mercedes kept it close striking out 8 over 3 scoreless and Chirinos struck out 3 in the 9th to close it out.

Note: Mercedes has 52 K in 30.2 innings this season.
