Astros Birthdays


Backstop Jack Hiatt (81) caught 79 games for the Astros in 1971 and 1972. A notably patient hitter, Hiatt drew walks about 17 percent of the time resulting in a .266/.393/.347 slashline.


RHP Henry Sosa (38) took 10 turns in Houston’s 2011 rotation, going 3-5 with a 5.23 ERA. He struck out 38 in 53 13 innings and posted a 1.444 WHIP. It was the only time he appeared at the major league level.

RHP Chad Paronto (48) came out of the bullpen for the Astros a dozen times in 2008 and 2009. In 17 frames he had a 7.41 FIP and ERA both, with seven whiffs in 17 innings and a 1.706 WHIP.

Outfielder Dick Simpson (80) played the last part of 1968 with the Astros. He hit .186 in 59 games with three home runs and 11 RBI.
