Double homer nights for Altuve and Chas-man

Was the atmosphere in Minute Maid Park filled with helium instead of oxygen last night? Eight homers total, six by Astros, two of them by a guy 5’5’’ says, “yes.”

Jose Altuve closed last night’s game with a grand slam. He started tonight’s game with another homer.

Altuve hit another solo homer in the eighth inning, his fifteenth. But we’ve seen Jose have two-homer nights before.

But what about Chas McCormick? He hit an oppo taco in the second, and a 439 foot bomb to left-center in the sixth. It was his eighth homer of the year in 88 ABs.

Who is this guy?

Even stranger still.

Myles Straw hit a home run. Yes, you read that right. MYLES STRAW HAD A HOME RUN. # 1 of the year of course.

And so did Martin Maldonado, still far below the Mendoza line for the season.

On the Rangers side a rookie, Eli White, got the first and second home runs of his career, accounting for half the Ranger run production.

Zack Greinke got the win for the Astros and had a solid night, allowing 3 runs in 5.2 IP. He left in the sixth with the bases loaded and two outs. We just knew his relief, Brooks Raley, would walk in a run but we were wrong. He allowed a two-run single.

But on a night when Astros homers were flying like the rockets red glare, a few Rangers runs here or there didn’t really matter.

The Astros swept the short series with the Rangers and look forward to four with the first-place White Sox from Chi-Town.

Bring it on.
