I love the Astros, of course, and found yesterday’s win most gratifying. But I think my favorite non-Astros player is Shohei Ohtani. His emerging story as a two-way superstar is the best story in baseball of our times. I would love to see that story happen. (except against the Astros)
His breakthrough performance last night is evidence that he might indeed be that superstar pitcher/hitter that hasn’t happened in baseball since 1919. And yet, the Astros won despite Ohtani’s dominance, thus it was a most gratifying game for me.
Watching Kyle Tucker getting the hits he deserves is pretty gratifying too. And Jose Altuve has a seven-game hitting streak going, during which his BA is .400, slugging .633, OPS 1.094, with a wRC+ of 207. He’s had two hits in five of those seven games. His hot streak is now as long as his post-COVID cold streak and he has brought his BA for the season up to .290 after it had dropped to .247.
It’s Urquidy against Andrew Heaney tonight.
Here’s the lineups.
