It’s a bad, bad, bad time. On Wednesday, the Astros dropped their third game in a row and were swept in a two-game series by the Colorado Rockies, who won 6-3. Houston has lost nine of the last 10 contests and it’s sharing the AL West last place with the Texas Rangers.
José Urquidy took the loss (0-2) as he couldn’t hold the Rockies’ offense. It seemed like batting practice in Coors Field, at least for the Rox.
Urquidy began the game allowing a two-run double to Trevor Story, a solo home run to Yonathan Daza, and an RBI single to Dom Núñez in the first two innings. It could have gone worse for Urquidy, but Kyle Tucker added this gem to his defensive highlight reel…

The Mexican righty was much better after the second frame and kept himself on the mound through five episodes (88 pitches, 55 strikes). He finished his outing with six hits and four earned runs, along with three walks and one strikeout. His ERA raised to 5.14. At
Although Urquidy overcame his early struggles, the Astros registered only five hits, and four of the eight starting position players didn’t get on base. The Astros’ only exclamation point offensively was Yuli Gurriel’s two-run moonshot off starter Austin Gomber, who went six innings of two-hit, two-run ball. That was the first hit for Gurriel since April 16 and his second home run of the year.

Gurriel aside, who went 1-for-4 with three runs batted in, there wasn’t much going on. The only hitter with a multi-hit performance for the Astros was Alex Bregman, who got on base three times thanks to two singles and one walk.
This game extended the Astros’ offensive woes. After scoring 7.3 runs and getting 10.4 hits per game in his first seven contests of the regular season, they’re at 2.3 runs and 6.8 hits per game since April 9. Over that span, they scored more than five times only once and their only win came on a 1-0 score against the Seattle Mariners.
The Astros are now with a 7-10 record and will begin on Thursday (8:10 pm ET) with a four-game series vs the Angels at Minute Maid Park, where the Astros lost five of six during their first homestand of the year. Cristian Javier will take the hill against Alex Cobb in the first matchup.
