Game 14 Thread. April 17, 2021, 8:10 CDT. Astros @ Mariners

The Astros will surely break through today, right?

The Astros scored five runs last night, better than they’ve done through the course of the six-game losing streak. And most of the production came from guys filling in for the big guns out on COVID-related IL.

Rookie Alex DeGoti in his first big league game had an RBI single, rookie Taylor Jones had two runs scored, rookie Chas McCormick had an RBI, and utilityman Aledmys Diaz had two ribbies.

Meanwhile, the 3,4,5 slots in the lineup were 2 -11. Yeah, when the rookies play as well or better than the superstars they replaced, you need to win those games.

But the Astros bullpen gave away last night’s game, Bryan Abreu, Blake Taylor, and Ryne Stanek allowing four runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to allow the Mariners to come from behind and walk-off the win.

Tonight Zack Greinke tries to bounce back from his last debacle in Detroit, when he allowed six runs and 10 hits in 4.2 innings against the Tigers.

His mound opponent is Chris Flexenm who has a 7.62 ERA in 78 innings pitched in the majors.

Here’s the lineups:
