On Friday night, it looked like the Astros players that the team will rely on to replace out-for-COVID-protocol victims Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez, and Martin Maldonado would be instrumental in breaking the 5-game losing that the team had taken to Seattle.

Aledmys Diaz had two RBI, rookie Alex De Goti had an RBI on his first big-league hit, rookie Chas McCormick added an RBI, and rookie Tayor Jones had two runs scored.

Despite this production from unexpected quarters, the Astros failed to hold a late lead and lost their sixth straight to the Mariners, 6-5.

The offense struggled out of the gate, managing just one walk through the first 4 innings against Yusei Kikuchi. Fortunately, Urquidy was pitching well too as he tossed four scoreless innings to match Kikuchi.

In the 5th inning, the Astros got their first hit on a Correa single which was followed by a Taylor Jones walk. A young Astro, Alex De Goti, followed with an RBI single to right. Taylor Jones came around to score as well on a throwing error by Dylan Moore. Chas McCormick followed with an RBI double to left center to make it 3-0.

Urquidy was rolling along with 5 shutout innings but ran into some trouble in the 6th. In the bottom of the 6th, the Mariners got back in the game with a 2 run double from Kyle Seager with no outs. Uriquidy settled down though striking out the next two before being pulled for Brooks Raley who struck out Trammel to get out of the inning.

The final line on Urquidy was...

5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO

With the way the pitching has been recently, this was a nice performance to see from Urquidy.

In the 7th inning the Astros were able to scratch across a couple more runs on a Diaz 2 run single that made it 5-2. Bryan Abreu came in for the bottom of the 7th and struggled allowed 2 runs as the Mariners cut the lead to just 5-4. Blake Taylor was able to come in and strike out Seager with a man on to keep it 5-4 Astros.

The Mariners added a run in the eighth on an Evan White homer off Blake Taylor.

The Mariners walked off the game in the bottom of the ninth after Ryne Stanek walked the first two batters, and Ty France singled off Ryan Pressly, giving the Mariners their only lead of the game.

The Mariners and Astros face off tonight at 8:10 CDT
