Brandon Bielak takes another shot at showing he can handle starter duties if need arises.

Yesterday's 10-9 loss to the Nats yesterday was actually a positive for the Astros, as the big bats showed they are progressing towards season-readiness. Jose Altuve, Michael Brantley, Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Carlos Correa, and Yordan Alvarez were a combined 10 - 20, and Brantley and Bregman each had home runs.

The team lost because starting pitcher Luis Garcia gave up five runs in the first inning in his first action after COVID quarantine. The Astros still managed to take the lead until late-inning relievers who will not likely wear an Astros uniform this year allowed the Nats to come back and win.

Brandon Bielak, who showed great promise early last season before falling apart, has mostly shown his second half of 2020 form this Spring. He isn’t in contention for an opening day roster spot, but he may be needed later in the season as depth. It would be good for him to show today that he can get major league batters out, as he did in early 2020.

Bad news from yesterday. Andre Scrubb, who was pitching fabulously this Spring, injured his shoulder yesterday. Another one bites the dust.

It’s the real deal lineup today, minus Alex Bregman, with 6”7’ “Too Tall” Taylor Jones covering the ground at third.

The game is televised.

Here’s the Astros.
