The Astros bring their second best pitcher by ERA to face the Mariners tonight. That’s Framber Valdez, who’s behind the Astros’ best, who is, of course...Cristian Javier. (Sorry Zack) For the record, Valdez is 4-3, with a 3.82 ERA.
His mound opponent is rookie Ljay Newsome, 0-1, 6.35 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched.
The Astros are three games ahead of the Mariners and any combination of three Astros wins or three Mariner losses will send the Astros to the playoffs with six games remaining. With a win tonight the Astros will only need one more win to clinch with five games to play, four with the Rangers.
But with the way they’ve been hitting? Who knows?
Well, with so much on the line, Manager Baker decided to play his best lineup, unlike last night. Here it is.
