On the same day the Astros learned Justin Verlander would need Tommy John Surgery, they took the field looking to create some good news of their own.

Cristian Javier got the start for the Astros. He allowed a run in the 2nd and 3rd and finished the start going 4 innings allowing just the 2 runs with 6 strikeouts.

The Astros got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd on a Jose Altuve RBI groundout as the Astros cut the lead to 2-1.

Enoli Paredes reliever Javier and made quick work of the D-Backs as he tossed two perfect innings tossing just 17 pitches.

In the bottom of the 6th, the offense rallied for two runs on an Altuve RBI double and a Kyle Tucker RBI single. Tucker now has 41 RBI in 50 games this season.

Josh James came on to pitch the 7th and tossed a shutout inning to maintain the Astros 3-2 lead. Brooks Raley got the 8th and continued to the solid pitching as he tossed a scoreless inning with 2 strikeouts.

Ryan Pressly got the 9th, and was dominant in his outing. He struck out 2 in a perfect 9th as he picked up the save in the 3-2 win.

The bullpen combined for 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K. Solid win!
