Game Preview: August 12, 2020. Giants @ Astros

Astros try to take the series in the rubber match at Minute Maid.

A bullpen of 8 rookies, a new guy from the Korean leagues named Riley, and two broken vets named James and Pressly. You can’t win very many games with this kind of bullpen. The group blew a four run lead last night on the way to another extra-inning loss, this time to the Giants.

In the last four games the bullpen, in 13 innings, has allowed 13 runs.

The Astros are currently 7-10 for the year, 4.5 games behind the first place A’s, and again one-half game behind the Rangers in third place in the AL West.

Tonight the rejuvenated Zack Greinke goes against Trevor Cahill. In his last game Greinke was brilliant, shutting out the A’s for six innings in a game that the bullpen would ultimately surrender.

Cahill is making his 2020 debut for the Giants. He signed with them during the off-season on a minor league contract and was activated for this game.

Sounds like an opportunity for the Stros. Strike early and often.

Cahill had a 4-9 record in 2019, and a 5.98 ERA. His career ERA is 4.21.

Go Stros.
