Game 1 Thread: July 24, 2020. 8:10 PM CDT. Mariners @ Astros

MLB: Exhibition-Houston Astros at Kansas City Royals Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

If you’re here you already know its the first Astros game of the season. I, for one, thought I had lost interest in baseball there for a while. But man am I glad to have baseball back.

And especially to be able to share it with you all, my good friends here at the Crawfish Boxes.

It’s really special to share your love of baseball and your love of your favorite team with other fans, dare I say friends? That’s what we do here. Let’s remember to keep it friendly. Let’s keep our disagreements respectful; no insults, name calling etc. After all, we’re all on the same team.

As if American politics weren’t already divisive enough before 2020, we all know they seem to be a breaking point right now. And politics have intruded into sports, as you all know.

Let’s try to stay on the same team here, not left or right, but Astros fans. For most of us, this place is a welcome respite from political divisions. Please try to avoid expressing political opinions here, and keep the discussion on the game and the teams on the field.

I love to argue about politics with the best of them, and no one believes in free speech more than me. But there are other more appropriate venues for those discussions. We be Astros fans here and that’s what we’re here to talk about.

Some news: Two major pieces in the Astros roster were cleared to play today. They are Yordan (R.O.Y.) Alvarez, DH, and Jose Urquidy, SP. Cleared to play that is, but when we actually see them on the field is anyone’s guess. They will begin training at the team’s alternate training site in Corpus Christi. The exact nature of the previous condition that landed them on the IL has still not been revealed. More about that here.
