Astros take on the Nats at 5:05

MLB: Spring Training-St. Louis Cardinals at Houston Astros Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday was a split squad day in Spring Training for the Astros. And the game results were a split too, the Astros beating the Mets 4-2, but losing to the Cardinals, 7-5.

In the Mets game, George Springer and Michael Brantley made their spring debuts, Springer going 1 for 3, and Brantley a perfect 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Off-season pitching acquistion and 5th starter contender Austin Pruitt started and threw three scoreless innings allowing only one base runner. Last year’s trade deadline acquisition, Joe Biagini, took up where he left off last season, allowing two runs in two innings on four hits.

Against the Cardinals, in a losing cause, Myles Straw was a standout with two home runs. Alex Bregman added one as well.

But pitching hopefuls disappointed in this one. Jose Urquidy allowed 2 runs in 1.1 innings as the starter. Top prospect Forrest Whitley gave up three runs on two hits and a walk before leaving after 1.2 innings.

Hey, its just the first week of ST.

Today its yet another game against Nationals, game time 5:05 CST.
