It had to happen eventually. It happens to the best of bullpens eventually. (See 2020 ALDS Games 1 and 2) Yes, the Astros bullpen melted down, coughing up a three run lead on the way to a 9-7 loss to the A’s.
Still the Astros have two more chances to advance to the ALCS. Today, they are putting it all on the line, going with the “sore-armed,” but medically cleared ace, Zack Greinke, with A-listers Cristian Javier, Enoli Paredes and Ryan Pressly relatively well-rested to close it out.
The A’s bring Frankie Montas to the mound, who is 3-5 for the year, with a 5.60 ERA.
