Besides the fans picks of George Springer, Michael Brantley and Alex Bregman, Gerrit Cole, Justin Verlander, and Ryan Pressly were added to the team as pitchers.

Astros fans may be disappointed by the exclusion of Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve, Josh Reddick and Robinson Chirinos. Of course, the long absences due to injury to Altuve and Correa wrecked their chances. Josh Reddick was a long-shot, his .785 OPS is 16th in the AL among qualified outfielders. Chirinos perhaps had the best chance, but there are only two catchers on the squad, and his .848 OPS is well below the .890 of Chicago’s James McCann. McCann has the highest fWAR among catchers in the AL at 2.1, compared to Chirinos’ 1.6.
