Game Preview : June 27th, 2019. Pirates vs. Astros

It’s a day game in Houston and the rubber match in the three game series with Pittsburgh.

George Springer is BAAAAACK. But where was everyone else in last night’s 14-2 blow-out loss to the Pirates? George can’t lead a resurgence of the Astros by himself. Springer had three of the Astros’ nine hits, hit the team’s only home run, and accounted for six of the fourteen total bases for the team.

Tonight’s game features two pitchers from the legendary 2017 Astros World Champion roster, Brad Peacock, starting for the Stros, and Joe Musgrove, taking the mound for the Pirates.

Of course, as you all know, Musgrove was the main piece the Astros surrendered to the Pirates in the trade that brought Gerrit Cole to Houston. Cole has since greatly upped his game, but Musgrove has not improved statistically since leaving the Astros. In 2017 Musgrove’s ERA and xFIP were 4.77 and 4.03 respectively. Going into this game today, Musgrove’s ERA is 4.57 and his xFIP is 4.67.

Although he started the season on an All Star trajectory, since May 19, Musgrove has a 5.84 ERA, although in his last start against San Diego he only allowed one run in seven innings.

Peacock comes into the game with a 3.62 ERA and a 6-5 record for the season.

Cy Sneed was activated from AAA Round Rock for this game, with Framber Valdez sent back down. It will be Sneed’s debut in a Major League uniform.

Watch for the Game Thread at 1:00 CDT. Game time is 1:10.
