The last time the Yankees and Astros met the Stros swept the Bombers at Minute Maid. The Astros were at full strength, but the Yankees were reeling with injuries. Now the tables are turned, the Astros are playing hurt, and the Yankees at least starting to come back on line.
The Astros hit the Big Apple reeling in another way, having just lost four in a row, their longest losing streak all year. The big bats have all been quiet lately, except Michael Brantley, but there has been unexpected but welcome production from Yuli Gurriel and Tyler White. Jose Altuve is back for his second game since returning from IL.
Framber Valdez takes the mound for the Astros tonight. He has given up just three runs in his two starts this year, seeming to solidify his hold on the #5 spot in the rotation. But holding down the Orioles and the Blue Jays is not the same thing as holding down the Yankees, and their right-hand heavy lineup should be a challenge for the young left-handed sinker ball pitcher.
