If you’re one to bet on baseball I have a tip. In the last two series against the Red Sox and the Cubs, the Astros took the first two games of the series and lost the final game. Obviously the Astros will lose today, after having beaten the A’s in the first two games of this series.
All kidding aside, the Astros send the AL’s top strikeout pitcher, Gerrit Cole, (5-5, 4.02 ERA), against Chris Bassitt, (3-1, 3-27 ERA), as the not-so-walking-wounded Astros try to sweep the A’s before heading to Seattle for four games this week.
Home runs by Josh Reddick and Robinson Chirinos, and great defense, especially by Myles Straw on an unbelievable catch in left field, helped secure Justin Verlander’s ninth win last night. But the game will be more remembered as the night Justin Verlander achieved 21st place in all-time strikeouts, surpassing Cy Young.
Astros lineup and media access information belowe.
Sunday sweep day.
