Two pitchers waged a tense duel last night, but it was Boston hurler Rick Porcello who blinked, allowing a George Springer home run in the eighth that ultimatley decided the game. The Astros went on to win 3-1, their tenth straight.
The Astros bullpen finished admirably the job Gerrit Cole started, and Ryan Pressly broke the major league record for most consecutive appearances without allowing a run, 39. What an amazing pitcher he’s turned out to be.
Tonight, in only his second major league game, Corbin Martin faces a tough test. Can he face down Mookie Betts, J.D. Marinez, Xander Bogaerts, et al. the way he handled the Rangers in his first start. A.J. could have used him against Detroit, but chose to keep his rotation intact, so obviously the manager has faith in his young starter.
The Red Sox counter with Hector Velazquez, (1-2, 3.95 ERA).
