Big Astros news yesterday. Seven players were cut from the Spring training roster, including these Top 100 prospects: Kyle Tucker, Forrest Whitley, J.B. Bukauskas and Corbin Martin. (see article here)
Furthermore, former prospect luminary, Frances Martes, currently recuperating from Tommy John surgery, was suspended 80 days for testing positive for a proscribed PED.
Yesterday the Astros lost to the Nats 5-3 on the strength of three home runs against starting pitcher and loser Justin Verlander. On the bright side was the continued success of the one top 100 prospect still in camp, Yordan Alvarez, who was 2-3, bringing his Spring BA up to .345.
Reymin Guduan threw a scoreless inning in relief with one strikeout, and with his Spring ERA now sitting at 3.00, seems to be emerging as the one lefty reliever most likely to break camp with the 25 man roster. He has 10 K’s against only one walk, and a WHIP of 0.83.
Not an A list lineup today, with Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and George Springer getting to sit this one out, but it should be fun to see Tony Kemp at lead off, and A. J. Reed gets another chance to redeem himself.
Lineup below.
Tony Kemp LF
Aledmys Diaz 3B
Alex Bregman SS
Michael Brantley DH
Yuli Gurriel 2B
Derek Fisher RF
Max Stassi C
A.J. Reed 1B
