Astros Crawfish Potluck: November 30th, 2019

Start your weekend by joining our conversation

MLB: Houston Astros at Baltimore Orioles Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

I hope everyone was able to enjoy time with family and friends this Thanksgiving. It’s always important to reconnect with the people in our lives at this time of year and remind ourselves of what’s really important. Baseball is a great sport and distraction, but real life connections matter most.

I am still a baseball fan though and have been glad to see a somewhat active Hot Stove season so far. Some of the bigger names have come off the free agent board already, with catchers in particular seeming to be in high demand. While I don’t see us returning to the heady free agent signings of a few seasons ago, it is nice to actually see some movement happening earlier in the offseason.

So, in honor of that, let’s get some questions going about free agents this weekend. As always, feel free to bring any appropriate links you find to the comment board or add to the conversation with a question of your own.

  1. Who will be the next “big name” free agent to sign this offseason?
  2. Will the Astros’ biggest acquisition this year come from signing someone or a trade?
  3. Assuming the compensation would be at or above market value, should MLB have a franchise tag system like the NFL?
