Yuli Gurriel has been named the AL Player of the Week after exploding at the plate for 4 multi-hit games in a row while also extending a 9 game hitting streak. This stretch included two back to back 3-hit games against the Angels, who Gurriel absolutely feasted on.

He would go 12-for-26, slashing .462/.462/.923 with 3 HR, 3 doubles, and 10 RBI while playing in all six games this week.

Gurriel’s big game came during the first of the series against the Angels where he would hit two of his three home runs this week, including a grand slam in the first inning that set the tone for the series, and drove in a career-high 7 runners. That grand slam was Gurriel’s third of his career and second of the season as well as the Astros’ 7th of the year, which ties a club record.

All this came on a day where Yuli’s younger brother, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., would also hit two home runs, becoming the first brothers with multi-homer games on the same day in MLB history. This also marks the second week in a row that an Astro has brought home the AL honors as Justin Verlander would win last week’s award.

Christian Yellich was named the NL Player of the Week and is apparently a very good baseball player for the Milwaukee Brewers. You can read all about his week as well as Yuli’s on MLB’s official site here.
