The Astros have officially activated George Springer off the 10-day DL. As expected, Derek Fisher was sent back to Fresno to make room on the 25-man roster.
Springer sprained his thumb on a steal attempt in the Astros’ final game at Dodger stadium. While the injury did not look pretty on the field, fans would breathe a sigh of relief when it turned out to be a minor injury, landing Springer on the DL for just the minimum. His return is quite welcome for the sluggish Astros offense, assuming he can continue his .261/.352/.609 pace since the break.
As for Fisher, his time warming George’s seat was violently unspectacular. Admittedly he had a limited role and did not see more than one PA in any of the 6 games he got in, but would squander all five of his chances, striking out in each of them. Fisher’s star has dimmed since winning the backup OF job out of spring training, and this turn at the MLB level did not do him any favors.
