Greetings Astros Fans,
My name is Scott Strickman and I am thrilled to become a member of The Crawfish Boxes team. A little bit about me: I was born and raised in Houston, though I’ve been transplanted for the last 8 years across the Mid-Atlantic. I lived in Baltimore for about 4 years and vividly remember Jason Castro hitting a grand slam at Camden Yards in a completely meaningless 11-0 thrashing of the Orioles. Even though we were in the midst of a third-consecutive 100-loss season, “I was there,” proudly sporting my Roy Oswalt jersey.
I’ve been an avid follower of Houston sports since my teenage years, and I forged an unbreakable bond with the Astros during the Biggio-Bagwell era of the ‘90s. My buddies and I played hooky a few times to watch the Astros-Reds battles of the mid-90’s NL Central (I still don’t get how a ball rolled directly through Derek Bell’s legs?) and I endured way too many devastating playoff losses to the Braves in the Dome (ugh, Walt Weiss). I even grew a goatee in college out of respect for Baggy (that’s supposed to be a time of experimentation, right?).
I’ve always gravitated toward statistics, numbers, and finding data trends to guide my decision- making and understanding. My education and training have afforded me some level of statistical expertise, so I hope to get “intimate” with Astros-related data and cover topics that will foster discussion and ultimately produce meaningful insights for us all. The opportunity to facilitate ideas and stimulate conversation with you about our beloved Astros (World Series Champs!) is truly an honor, and one that I will not take lightly.
Go ‘Stros, and always Hustle.
Scott
