Game Recap: Suicide Stros Sweep Series. Gonzalez Squeeze Bunt Puts Houston 2-1 Over Chi-Sox

Astros Take Season Series over Chicago 7-0.

MLB: Chicago White Sox at Houston Astros Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

After scoring 27 runs and mashing 38 hits in the first three wins in the series against White Sox, the Astros resorted to small ball today, scoring the winning run on a two strike suicide squeeze by Marwin Gonzalez, plating Yuli Gurriel. Gurriel got on base with a lead off double in the seventh inning, one of only three hits the Astros managed all day.

Gurriel was the White Sox nemesis this weekend, going 6-13 and accumulating 7 RBI.

The Astros only other run was on a Jose Altuve home run in the 4th, his ninth of the year.

This game settled into a pitchers duel early on, after the Astros failed to take advantage of wildness by White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito in the first inning, stranding a runner on third with one out. Giolito settled down to pitch 7.1 innings, giving up the only Astros runs, and taking the hard luck loss.

Astros starter Dallas Keuchel got his sixth win of the year against eight losses, scattering 6 hits in 7 innings pitched, allowing only the one run, that on a sac fly by Tim Anderson in the seventh inning. His season ERA is back below four at 3.95 for the season.

Astros relievers Collin McHugh and Hector Rondon pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings respectively. Rondon collected his 7th save.

The Astros continue the home stand tomorrow against the Oakland A’s. The A’s send Frankie Montas (4-2, 3.83 ERA) against Gerrit Cole (9-2 2.70 ERA)

Game time 7:10 CDT.
