MLB: Houston Astros-Media Day Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (2-2) won 9-4 (BOX SCORE)

Armenteros made his 2018 debut last night and it didn’t go too well as he went just 4.1 innings allowing 6 hits and 3 runs. Fortunately, the offense had another good night. In the 5th inning the Grizzlies put up 3 runs thanks to a wild pitch, bases loaded walk to Reed and a Stubbs sac fly. They would add 3 more runs in the 6th on RBI base hits from Garcia and Kemp. Mayfield added an RBI double in the 7th with Reed adding a sac fly in the 8th. The bullpen was solid with Dorris tossing 1.2 scoreless innings as Fresno picked up the win.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (2-2) lost 7-5 (BOX SCORE)

The score doesn’t really do justice for this game as the Hooks trailed the entire time. Bostick got the start and allowed 3 runs and 4 hits over 3.2 innings. Hill and Garza also pitched in relief for the Hooks but both allowed runs in their outings. The Hooks had just 2 hits going into the 9th but tried to rally. They got a Gurriel RBI single, Alvarez RBI single, Cesar RBI single and Tanielu 2 run double. The Hooks weren’t able to get anything else across the plate and lost 7-5.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (1-3)

Game 1 - won 1-0 (BOX SCORE)

This was a very well pitched game for Buies Creek. Carson LaRue made his season debut was very good going 4.2 innings allowing just 3 hits and no runs with 3 strikeouts. He was relieved by Ferrel who tossed 3.1 scoreless innings himself. The game went to the 8th inning (extra innings since it was a minor league double header) and Trompiz started on 2nd base. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly for the lone run of the game.

  • Ronnie Dawson, CF: 0-for-2, BB
  • Chas McCormick, LF: 1-for-3, 2B
  • Abraham Toro-Hernandez, 3B: 0-for-2, BB
  • Chuckie Robinson, C: 1-for-3
  • Osvaldo Duarte, 2B: 0-for-1, RBI, BB

  • Carson LaRue, RHP: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
  • Justin Ferrell, RHP: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K (WIN)

Game 2 - lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Game 2 was another low scoring affair. Brandon Bailey, acquired from the A’s for Laureano, made his Astros debut last night and was very good. He went 5.1 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run with 7 strikeouts. Buies Creek got their lone run when Sierra doubled and came around to score on a groundout. Sierra relieved Bailey and eventually allowed the winning run in the 8th. Interesting note though, the run that scored in the 8th with the man starting on second rule for extras, was counted as an unearned run.

  • Ronnie Dawson, CF: 1-for-4, 2B
  • Troy Sieber, 1B: 0-for-2, 2 BB
  • Anibal Sierra, SS: 1-for-3, R, 2B
  • Carlos Canelon, C: 0-for-2, RBI, BB

  • Brandon Bailey, RHP: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
  • Carlos Sierra, RHP: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
