Another day of minor league baseball in the books, and it was a little better day than opening night for the Astros minor league squads. See the results below.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (0-2) lost 8-4 (BOX SCORE)
Thornton got the start last night and ran into some early trouble when he allowed four runs (all unearned) in the 3rd inning. The Grizzlies entered the 6th inning down 5-0 but rallied scoring 5 runs on a Tucker 2 run HR (first AAA HR), White solo HR and Mayfield solo HR. The offense didn’t get much else going as those were the only 4 runs they score during the game. Guduan and Boshers did have scoreless outings for Fresno in relief.

The Hooks picked up their first win in pretty stunning fashion. They started off the game well scoring 3 runs in the first inning on a Tanielu RBI groundout and 2 run double from Jones. Dykxhoorn got the start and was very good going 4.1 innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 unearned run. In the top of the 5th the Hooks picked up another run on an Alvarez sac fly making it 4-0. NW Arkansas then proceeded to jump all over the Hooks bullpen putting up 9 runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. Corpus would rally though getting one run in the 8th on a Straw RBI single before exploding for 6 in the 9th thanks to two RBI walks, a DeGoti 3 run triple and a Benedetti RBI single. Garza closed out the game with two scoreless innings.

Buies Creek didn’t pick up the win last night but Perez was dominating. He went 5 innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 run with 10 strikeouts. Buies Creek had a nice lead scoring once in the 3rd, 5th, and 6th. Bielak relieved Perez was was very good but ran into some trouble in the 9th and allowed 3 runs as Salem walked it off.
