Astros Prospect Report: April 16th, 2018

See how the Astros prospects performed last night

MLB: Spring Training-New York Mets at Houston Astros Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (9-3) won 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno barely hung onto this win last night. The Grizzlies got on the board in the first inning on a solo HR from Tyler White, his 4th of the season. They would get 4 more in the 3rd on a Davis 2 run single and Federowicz 2 run single. Hauschild got the start and was very good going 6.1 innings allowing just 1 run with 8 strikeouts. Fresno picked up 2 more runs in the 8th on a Federowicz RBI double and Ferguson RBI single to make it 7-1. Nunn and McCurry struggled in the 9th allowing 5 runs, but McCurry was able to get the last two outs without Reno scoring again to pick up the save.

Note: White is hitting .341 with 4 HR, 10 RBI in 12 games this season.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (6-5) won 9-0 (BOX SCORE)

Another good combined pitching performance in the Astros system. Cionel Perez got the start and tossed 4 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts. Tanielu got the Hooks on the board in the first inning on a 2 run HR. Corpus Christi blew it open in the 3rd scoring 5 runs on a 2 run double from Benedetti, Birk RBI single, and two RBI groundouts. Bendedetti added an RBI double in the 6th giving him 3 RBI in the game. Cesar would add another RBI basehit in the 8th to make it 9-0. Garza relieved Perez and pitched very well himself tossing 4 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts.

Note: Straw is hitting .382 with .533 OBP in 11 games this season.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (7-5) won 3-0 (BOX SCORE)

Buies Creek pitching has been unreal. This was their third straight shutout, this one courtesy of Saldana and Alcala. Saldana got the start and was good once again tossing 5 no hit innings. He has let to allow an earned run in three appearances this season. Rojas got the offense on the board in the first inning with an RBI double. Buies Creek got some more insurance with an RBI double from Toro and an RBI single McCormick in the 8th to make it 3-0. Alcala relieved Saldana in the 6th inning and was even more dominant. Though he allowed a hit in the 8th, that was the only hit he allowed as he finished the game with 4 scoreless innings to include 7 strikeouts.

Note: Saldana has started the season with 14 consecutive shutout innings.
