During the Spring Training broadcast today, AJ Hinch confirmed on air that future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander will start on Opening Day in Arlington against the Texas Rangers, with Dallas Keuchel following with the start in the second game of the season.
Justin Verlander has been utterly dominant so far this season in Spring Training, a year after going 5-0 in his first five regular season starts with the Astros and running out some truly dominant performances in the postseason. All told, he posted a 15-8 record with a 9.57 K/9 number and a 3.36 ERA with 4.1 fWAR, a 3.84 FIP, and a 4.17 xFIP. Verlander has logged 200 or more innings in ten of the last eleven seasons, and only once in his Major League career has he thrown less than 186 innings since his full-time debut in 2006.
