The Houston Astros make a splash just before the playoff roster deadline to acquire Tigers longtime ace Justin Verlander last week and he makes his first start as an Astro tonight in Seattle.
Verlander, 34, makes his first start as an Astro riding in on a high. He is 4-1 with 2.36 ERA in six starts during the month of August. Verlander is 5-5 with a 3.95 ERA in 12 career starts at Safeco Field. Verlander last pitched on Aug. 30 with the Tigers.
Robinson Cano has 50 career at-bats against Verlander, he is batting .260 with one home run and eight strikeouts. Kyle Seager is batting .368 (7x19) with two home runs and three strikeouts.
