The Window is closing on the Astros catching the Indians for the AL’s best record

The Astros will likely have to sweep the Red Sox to have a chance.

The Cleveland Indians collected their 100th win of the season Thursday with a 5-2 win over the Twins.

The Indians’ record currently sits at 100-59. If that wasn’t clear from the Terry Francona tweet.

The Astros’ record is currently at 98-60 with four games remaining against the Boston Red Sox. And the Astros record against the Indians in 2017 was 1-5.

What does that all mean? The Astros can’t tie the Indians and get home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

In order to surpass the Indians by season’s end, will likely pick up four wins over playoff-bound Boston to improve to 102-60 and hope the White Sox take two of three from the AL Central Champions. Or a sweep by the White Sox, the Astros will still be required to win a four-game series with the Red Sox.

(As Rambo points out, the Astros could sweep the Red Sox and Astros could still face Boston. Correct. If the Indians win out, the Astros win are mute.)

At least the Astros are getting an early preview against the Red Sox if the Indians don’t fall on their face.
