Astros enter Sunday with magic number at 1

Astros and Angels win. Houston can take the title on Sunday.

MLB: Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Astros did their job on Saturday, winning 8-6 over the Mariners. But so did the Angels, winning 2-0 over the Rangers.

With those two facts, the Astros magic number remains at one. One win by the Astros or one loss by the Angels equals Houston is the 2017 AL West Champion.

The Astros will likely be done first either way on Sunday. Houston's game starts at 1:10 p.m. CT with Justin Verlander (12-8, 3.58 ERA) going against Andrew Moore (1-3, 5.36 ERA).

The Angels and Rangers will start at 2:37 p.m. CT with Garrett Richards (0-1, 1.38 ERA) going against Miguel Gonzalez (7-11, 4.86 ERA).

The Angels, Mariner, and Rangers are still in the hunt for the Wild Card. The Yankees appear locked into the top spot 5 games clear of the next team. The Angels are only a game behind the Twins, while the Mariners (3.5 games), Royals (4), and Rangers (5) still have a sliver of home.

The stars appear to have aligned for a great day of Astros history. It should be fun to watch.
