White Sox 3, Astros 2 (11): Moncada sends Astros to a new low

MLB: Houston Astros at Chicago White Sox Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Astros closer Ken Giles entered Thursday’s game at Guaranteed Rate Field with the Astros lead 2-1 over the Chicago White Sox, the team worst record in the AL.

Giles struck out Leury Garcia to open the inning. But fell behind top prospect Yoan Moncada 2-0 in his second at-bat. Moncada was able to get a hold of a 98-MPH fastball and flip the other way into the front row of the left center field bleachers for a home run. Tying the game at 2-2.

The Astros would get hits in each of the two extra innings but couldn’t put across a run. But Moncada completed the defeat of the Astros with a walk-off single after Leury Garcia singled and moved to second on an error

The Astros were swept by the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, a new low for the Astros. The sky may be falling after all.

Jake Marsinick blasted his 14th home run of the season and Marwin Gonzalez added a nice double in the sixth to score a run. But the Astros couldn’t solve Carlos Rodon and hurt themselves when they had a chance.

For example, the Astros ran themselves into two outs in the second inning. J.D. Davis grounded into a double play in the third. Altuve grounded into a double play in the fourth.

Brad Peacock allowed one run over 6 13 innings, scattering seven hits and striking out five while walking one.
