On the day that the Houston Astros had a lackluster trade deadline, things got from bad to worst. RHP Lance McCullers was placed on the Disabled List for the second time this season with back discomfort.

McCullers, 23, struggled since returning from his first DL stint during the month of July, he was 0-2 with a 9.64 ERA over four starts (18 23 innings).

The Astros have recalled RHP Michael Feliz and first baseman A.J. Reed with the two open spots on the active roster. Reed replaces Nori Aoki that was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for LHP Francisco Liriano.

Reed is batting .251 (92x366) with an 18 doubles, 22 home runs, and 75 RBIs in 98 games with Triple-A Fresno.

Feliz returned to the Astros after 41 games this season with Houston. He was 4-2 with a 4.84 ERA in 44 23 innings.

No word yet on who would replace McCullers in the rotation.
