3 Astros prospects named to Midwest League All-Star Game

Alvarez, LaRue, and Enoli will be on the Western Division All-Star roster.

Three Houston Astros prospects were named to the Midwest League All-Star team on Wednesday. Single-A Quad Cities River Bandits first baseman and designated hitter Yordan Alvarez, RHP Carson LaRue and RHP Enoli Paredes will participate in the 53rd annual Midwest League Midsummer Classic. The All-Star game will take place on June 20, at Dow Diamond in Midland, Michigan.

The All-Star rosters are nominated and chosen by the field managers of the 16 Midwest League clubs.

Through Alvarez’s first 20 games with the River Bandits is hitting .414 (29x70) with three home runs and 16 RBI. Alvarez was acquired by the Astros at the trade deadline in 2016, coming from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for pitcher Josh Fields .

LaRue leads the River Bandits with six wins on the season, which is tied for fifth-most in the entire league with a 2.13 ERA entering Wednesday. He has struck out 47 batters compared to 15 walks in 50.2 innings this season. LaRue was selected by the Astros in the 14th round of the 2016 draft.

Paredes is 1-3 with a 2.11 ERA in eight games (six starts), he has struck out 33 and walked 13 in 38 1/3 innings. Paredes was an international signing from the Dominican Republic.
