One of the major driving forces of the Astros’ current 10-game winning streak is George Springer. Major League Baseball has taken notice. Springer has been named the American League Player of the Week for the week of May 29-June 4.

Springer, 27, won his first player of the week honor in his career. During the week, Springer recorded multiple hits all six games. He hit .500 (15x30) with 11 runs scored, one double, five home runs, 9 RBI and a 1.565 OPS (.531 OBP/1.033 SLG). During the week, he led the AL in runs, hits, home runs, slugging and OPS. Springer currently has a nine-game hitting streak and has scored at least one run in eight straight contests.
The Astros won five Player of the Week Awards in 2016, one by Tyler White (April 4-10), one by Jose Altuve (April 11-17), one by Colby Rasmus (April 18-24) and two by Correa (June 20-26, Aug. 8-14).
