Houston Astros (45-23) vs. Boston Red Sox (38-29), June 17, 2017, 7:15 p.m. CT
RHP David Paulino (0-0, 6.59 ERA, 1.68 WHIP) vs. RHP Rick Porcello (3-8, 4.67 ERA, 1.51 WHIP)
The Astros learned on Friday night that the margin of error is far smaller against the teams from the AL East.
The Astros don't have that margin for error with Saturday’s starter David Paulino on the mound. Paulino is making his fifth career start for the Astros. He is 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA in his previous four starts. He is 0-0 with a 6.59 ERA in three starts in 2017. He has allowed 10 earned runs over 13 2/3 innings.
Paulino allowed five earned runs over four innings (77 pitches) on June 11 against the Angels. He allowed six hits including a home run and walked two.
The 2016 AL Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello takes the mound for the Red Sox on Saturday. Porcello has posted back to back starts where he pitched six innings but gave up five runs.
Much of Porcello's issues have happened at Fenway Park, he's 2-5 with a 5.40 ERA. He is 1-3 with a 3.76 ERA in six road starts.
Former Yankees Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann have over 20 at-bats against Porcello. Beltran is batting .360 (9x25) with a double. McCann is 5-for-21 with nine strikeouts.
