Hooks net 7 Texas League All-Star Game selections

The Astros Double-A affiliate Corpus Christi Hooks will have seven players on the team including catcher Garrett Stubbs, first baseman Jon Singleton, third baseman J.D. Davis, outfielder Drew Ferguson, infielder Jack Mayfield, and RHPs Rogelio Armenteros and Kyle Smith.

Four of the players will be starters in the game for the South squad. Stubbs, Singleton, Davis, and Ferguson were voted to start by by league field staffs, broadcasters, and beat writers.

Stubbs, 24, was an 8th round pick out of USC by the Astros. He has batted .235 (36x153) with 23 runs scored, nine extra-base hits, and 14 RBIs.

Singleton, 25, is batting .227 (39x172) with 10 home runs and 38 RBIs.

Davis, 24, was a third-round pick out of Cal State Fullerton in 2014. He is batting .281 (64x228) with 16 home runs and 37 RBIs.

Ferguson, 24, was a 19th round pick out Belmont in 2015. He is batting .292 (63x216) with 18 extra-base hits and 24 RBIs.

Mayfield, 26, was an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma. He is a batting .281 (41x146) with 14 extra-base hits and 14 RBIs in 38 games with the Hooks.

Armenteros, 22, was an international signing from Cuba. He is 2-2 with a 1.76 ERA in 12 games (nine starts) with 66 strikeouts and 19 walks in 56 13 innings.

Smith, 24, was the return for the Justin Maxwell trade in 2013. He 2-1 with a 2.33 ERA in 12 games (eight starts), he has 46 strikeouts and 15 walks in 54 innings. Smith was promoted to Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday.
