The Houston Astros are dealing with four starting pitchers on the disabled list. The Astros bullpen has thrown 204 innings entering the game on Sunday. These facts came to ahead on Sunday in the Astros’ 12-6 loss to the Angels.
David Paulino allowed five runs on six hits over four-plus innings. Michael Feliz didn't help matters. He allowed four runs on three hits over one inning. James Hoyt followed with two runs on two hits over 1 2/3 innings. And by that point, the game was far out of hand.
Before the bullpen exploded, Houston did have a lead in this game. George Springer and Yuli Gurriel tied the game at 3-3 with home runs.
The Astros picked up four runs in the fourth inning including the Gurriel home run. Alex Bregman followed the Gurriel home run. Nori Aoki picked up his 1,999 career professional hits with a double to score Bregman. Josh Reddick and Jose Altuve scored two runs with a pair of singles.
Aoki made the clear highlight of the game in the sixth inning. He collected his 2,000 career professional hit and an automatic ticket to Japan’s “Meikyukai” aka the Golden Players Club — a defacto hall of fame.
