The Houston Astros didn’t have many surprises when it came to constructing the 2017 Opening Day roster. The Astros are a playoff contender and have an answer at every position.
It was merely a formality when general manager Jeff Luhnow announced on Sunday the opening day 25-roster. The Astros will carry 13 pitchers and 12 position players.
The Astros will have two players starting the disabled list: RHP Collin McHugh and RHP David Paulino (backdated to March 30).
Six players will be participating in their first major league opening day: INF Alex Bregman, RHP Chris Devenski, INF Yuli Gurriel, RHP Jandel Gustave, and RHP Lance McCullers Jr., and Joe Musgrove.
Gurriel and Gustave are the only two rookies on the 2017 roster.
