Gustave, 24, had an impressive Spring Training run with a 1-1 record and a 1.80 ERA in 11 games. He allowed one hit over an inning against the Cubs on Thursday.
Gustave made his major league debut in 2016, he was 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA in 14 games.
Hoyt, 30, was 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 22 games with the Astros in 2016. He was 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in 10 appearances during Spring Training.
Astros manager A.J. Hinch stated that the decision wouldn’t be impacted by the Cubs game, in which Hoyt gave up a home run to Anthony Rizzo. But Gustave brings a special talent to the Astors bullpen with his electric fastball.
