he first true gauge of Collin McHugh's readiness for the season will come Monday morning when he pitches off a mound in a bullpen session for the first time this spring.

Astros shortstop Carlos Correa said he's told Team Puerto Rico he's willing to play third base in the World Baseball Classic, a means of getting both him and Francisco Lindor in the same lineup.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Mets at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches marked the final appearance in Grapefruit League play for pitchers Luke Gregerson and Kevin Chapman and outfielder Carlos Beltran before heading to the World Baseball Classic. Gregerson, who threw a scoreless inning on Saturday, will be representing the United States in the Classic for a second time. He'll leave Monday and make the short drive to Miami to being workouts Tuesday and Wednesday in advance of games starting early next week.

Mets win with doubles, Jacob deGrom's debut |
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Mets starter Jacob deGrom breezed through two innings in his Grapefruit League debut Saturday afternoon, retiring all six Astros batters he faced while striking out three in a 3-1 win at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. deGrom, who did not pitch after Sept. 1 this past season and had surgery to reposition the ulnar nerve in his right elbow on Sept. 21, threw 19 of his 26 pitches for strikes and was hitting the mid-90s with his fastball. P.J. Conlon followed with two scoreless innings.
