The Houston Astros were out of options with catcher Max Stassi. Stassi had to be on the Astros 25-man roster or clear waivers claim process to be sent back to the minors.

The Astros went with door No. 2 and no teams claimed Stassi, and he has was outrighted to Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday.

Stassi, 26, continued his struggles at the plate during Spring Training. He batted .150 (3x20) with a home run and two RBIs.

Stassi was at a time considered the catcher of the future for the Astros have Houston traded for him back in 2013 with Chris Carter and Brad Peacock. But the bat has never come around at higher levels, he batted .230 (56x243) with seven home runs and 32 RBIs in 69 games with Triple-A Fresno last season.

Stassi hasn’t been quite the same player since he was hit in the face with a pitch in 2013 during his first major league call-up.
