Baseball Prospectus is one of the premiere sources for baseball knowledge and the outlet has its own flavor of prospect rankings. The BP Top 101 Prospects of 2017 includes four Astros: RHP Francis Martes, OF Kyle Tucker, RHP David Paulino, and RHP Franklin Perez.

Martes checks in at No. 28, he was 9-6 with a 3.30 ERA in 25 games (22 starts) with Double-A Corpus Christi. Martes has proven to be the jewel of the Jarred Cosart trade with the Marlins in 2014. Martes moves up from No. 63 on the 2016 list.

Tucker is No. 37 on the list, he batted .285 (123x432) with 56 runs scored, 25 doubles, nine home runs, and 69 RBIs. Tucker was the Astros’ first-round pick in the 2015 draft. Tucker moves up from No. 93 in 2016.

Paulino and Perez are back-to-back on the list at No. 83 and 84. Paulino made his major league debut with the Astros in 2016 after he was 5-2 with a 1.83 ERA in 14 games (nine starts) at Double-A Corpus Christi.

Perez was 3-3 with a 2.84 ERA in 15 games (10 starts) with Single-A Quad Cities. He was an international free agent signing out of Venezuela.

BP’s top 10 Astros prospects from December rounds out with RHP Forrest Whitley at No. 5, SS Miguelangel Sierra, OF Ramon Laureano, OF Derek Fisher, OF Teoscar Hernandez, and OF Daz Cameron.

Alex Bregman (No. 39) and A.J. Reed (No. 55) graduated from last year’s list and Daz Cameron drops off the top 101 list after being ranked No. 85 last season.
