Astros down Angels in 4-1 Victory

Joe Musgrove is brilliant in Sunday's victory against the Los Angels Angels of Anaheim

The 2016 AL Wild Card race continues and the Houston Astros remain in contention after a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. As of this posting, the Astros are still 3.0 games back of the second wild card spot. The good news? A bunch of teams going for the wild card are facing each other this week so there's a shot that if we take care of business we sneak in. Cross your fingers, everyone!

Tonight was a display of power by our beloved Astros. Three solo home runs left the park today to drive the home team to victory. Evan Gattis, Tony Kemp (you read that right!) and Tyler White all spanked the ball over the fence. Well done gentlemen!

The other run to score for the Astros came from a Carlos Correa single in the first inning. The run was manufactured thanks to a Jose Altuve single, a wild pitch which advanced him to second, and then a hard hit liner by Correa which plated Altuve.

As for the pitching, well, Joe Musgrove was simply brilliant. He scattered seven hits across seven innings, striking out four and allowing only one run to score. Will Harris and Ken Giles would pitch a clean final two innings to finish off the game.

The Astros continue their bid for a wild card spot tomorrow against the Seattle Mariners. Collin McHugh will take the bump against the Mariners' Hisashi Iwakuma. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
