McHugh, Astros blanks Mariners 6-0

Collin McHugh is 5-0 with a 1.65 ERA in five career games at Safeco Field entering the series against the Mariners. McHugh’s magic continued on Friday night. McHugh allowed just two hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings against the Mariners in Houston’s 6-0 win.

McHugh work set the table the Astros offense that scored five earned runs off Mariners ace Felix Hernandez over 4 13 innings.

The Astros offense was sparked by the No. 9 hitter, Jake Marsinick, in the second inning. Marsinick doubled home two runs with a line drive down the left-field line.

Houston would add runs over the next three innings. Carlos Correa added a two-bagger to score Jose Altuve from first — who had reached on an error.

Marsinick making an impact in the fourth inning. Marsinick opened the frame with a single and stole second. Yulieski Gurriel dropped in a hit that sent Marsinick racing home.

Evan Gattis and Marwin Gonzalez put the nails in the coffin with a pair of solo home runs.

James Hoyt and Tony Sipp each pitched a clean inning of relief.
