1. Gurriel at third base
The Astros’ biggest free agent signing during the Jeff Luhnow era thus far is Cuban infielder Yulieski Gurriel. Gurriel was expected to play in the field for the first time since being called up in the majors this month — reports Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle. Kaplan spoke with Astros manager A.J. Hinch who spoke about Gurriel on Sunday:
"He's going to play third base or left field in the next couple days, maybe as soon as (Monday)," manager A.J. Hinch said on Sunday.
Gurriel is in the lineup on Monday at third base with Alex Bregman playing designated hitter. It will be fascinating to see what happens with Gurriel seeing playing time in the field. After a few weeks with Alex Bregman playing third, I’m more than satisfied with him at third base for years to come. But can the 32-year-old prove he should stay in the infield? We shall see.
2. Gregerson could be back soon
Luke Gregerson has had a few lingering injuries over the months of July and August. He has already been put on 15-day disabled list in early August. But he has been hampered a left ankle injury that has prevented him from throwing since August 18. Gregerson will test his ankle on Monday and hope to help the club this week against the A’s.
Luke Gregerson’s time has been interesting, to say the least. He’s been lights out even without a power fastball at times. He has struggled at times as the Astros closer and no can’t stay on the field. What does this string of injuries man for the Astros as the team has Gregerson under contract for one more season?
3. Lending a helping hand
Louisana was hit with devastating floods earlier this month. Former LSU players Will Harris and Alex Bregman are part of a group of Tigers trying to help out. Here is how to get a part of it:
