Astros' Yulieski Gurriel picks up first major league hit

That didn't take long.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Astros haven't had much earlier luck with some of their prospects. Both A.J. Reed and Alex Bregman struggled mightily before putting it together at the plate. The prospect struggles had become so regular that TCB joked how long would it take Yulieski Gurriel to pick up his first major league.

It didn't take long to get an answer. Gurriel was called up on Sunday and played designated hitter for the Astros in his first major league game against the Orioles. Gurriel batted sixth in the order.

He faced Yovani Gallardo in the second inning. He saw an 89 MPH fastball on a 3-1 count and ripped back up the middle for his first major league hit. Gurriel for a moment was 1-for-1 and finished the game 1-for-2 with a walk.

Now here is the video from said hit, just in case you missed since there was a four-hour rain delay.
