Normally, we start each series preview with a look at the pitching matchups and how each team's hitters are doing coming into the week, since it is a holiday -- I'm taking a small break and doing a classic game preview to start the series against the Mariners. That said Happy Independence Day to everyone.
Lance McCullers returns to the rotation after being bumped because a developing blister on his right index finger. The was precautionary but it setups nicely for the Astros on July 4.
McCullers has allowed just three earned run over his last two starts (13 1/3 innings). He allowed one run on six hits in his last start on June 22 against the Angels. McCullers is 2-1 with a 2.37 ERA in five home starts compared to his 1-1 record with a 6.89 ERA in three road starts this season.
He is 2-1 with a 2.93 ERA in three career starts against the Mariners. Current Mariners are batting .200 (7x35) against McCullers with a .316 BABIP, 2.43 FIP, 40.0 K%, and a 10.0 BB%.

Wade Miley returned from a stint on the disabled list due to a sore shoulder to allow five runs over four hits against the Pirates on June 29. He is 1-2 with a 7.40 ERA in four June starts. Miley allowed two runs on five hits over six inning in a May 5 start against Houston.
